There are two types of watchdogs in the system.
The first is a software watchdog that checks if it is being triggered by other running software. If there is no response after a certain period, the software is restarted, and every effort is made to get it running again. In the worst-case scenario, the watchdog can turn the computer off and on again. This can happen a maximum of once per day to prevent constant shutdowns.
The second watchdog is a hardware watchdog that must be triggered every 25 minutes, otherwise it cuts off power to the PC. This process is harsh and is generally not intended for regular use; it is only for emergencies. The reason for having watchdogs is to ensure that we never miss critical measurement data.
